Manchester United’s interest in England and Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho is far from a secret, and the Premier League side have been attempting to negotiate a deal for him this summer. Sancho, a former Manchester City youth product, is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top transfer target ahead of next season.
Crucially, the player is believed to be keen on the move; having developed into one of Europe’s most exciting players in the Bundesliga. But the deal has not been able to develop quickly, with Dortmund holding out for £108million and refusing to budge on that asking price.
Their managing director Michael Zorc has gone on record to say that Sancho will be playing at Dortmund next season. United are even believed to have missed a deadline to do the deal imposed by the selling club, but it is hard to see them giving up with two months remaining of the transfer window.
“Jadon Sancho will play with us next season,” Zorc said. “The decision is final. I think that answers all the questions.
“Last summer we adjusted Jadon’s salary to match the development of his performances. So in context, we had already extended his contract until 2023 back then.”
But Dortmund have laid down the law with a cryptic tweet, showing a picture of Sancho smiling in the club’s training kit with the caption; “You Love To See It.”
While it feels like we are only at the start of this saga, it looks as though United may have more difficulties in acquiring Sancho than they first thought. It’ll be interesting to see if he will be wearing the red shirt by the start of next season.
