On the 31st of January 2019, Odion Ighalo signed for Manchester United from Shanghai Shenua on loan till the end of the season.
The Nigerian sporting world congratulated the 2019 AFCON Top Scorer as he got to sign for childhood club and a tag came up “Favour Over Labour”.
Ighalo’s move to United made history as he became the first Super Eagles to ever sign and also play for United.
On February 17 2019, he made his debut for the Red Devils against Chelsea with a cameo appearance in the English Premier League.
The ex Nigerian international on his full debut opened his goal scoring account for the Red Devils against Club Brugge in the UEFA Europa League Round of 32.
Summing up Ighalo’s 2019/2020 season with United, we could say it was a fantastic one despite playing a back up role. He featured for United 19 times, scored 5 times and turned provider on one occasion.
Suddenly the buzz around Odion Ighalo has seized and he has fallen down the pecking order. He has made only one appearance in the EPL this season and it was a three minute show.
With him being overlooked at the theater of dreams one would hope that his time would surely come, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has gone into the tranfser market to bring PSG’s all time goalscorer Edinson Cavani to the team.
What’s next for Odion Ighalo? Does Edinson Cavani’s arrival mean that the romance with United is over ?
